A hardware security module (HSM) for storing cryptographic keys
KeySafe is a security module for storing cryptographic keys, designed to operate within the MicroMade Secure Identification System (MmSID). It enables the construction of an access control system with the highest security grade, level 4.
Purpose of the KeySafe
Every MmSID system installation is based on cryptographic keys that are generated locally during the system’s configuration. These keys are then loaded into the KeySafe module. From this point on, KeySafe serves as the sole source of cryptographic security for the entire access control installation.
All keys required by MmSID devices are generated by KeySafe and delivered to individual devices in the form of secure certificates.
KeySafe never exposes the stored keys in plain text.
The KeySafe module:
- Stores the main cryptographic keys of the installation (randomly generated during configuration)
- Prepares certificates with keys for the MM-A70 programmer
- Prepares certificates with appropriate keys for the readers
KeySafe connects to a computer’s USB port. It is designed as a USB-A plug and is ready to use as soon as it is connected to a computer, requiring no additional driver installation.
