OSDP Bus Manager for the MmSID System

The MmSID Manager is the primary device for configuring OSDP readers within the MicroMade Secure Identification System (MmSID).

It is only needed during the installation phase. All OSDP readers must be assigned unique addresses before they can begin operating in an access control system. The standard procedure is to assign addresses before mounting the readers by connecting them individually to a computer.

In the MmSID system, this process is completely different. The entire installation is completed first:

• Readers are mounted in their final locations.
• They are connected to the OSDP bus (and, of course, to the power supply).
• The OSDP bus is routed to the location where the controller will be installed.

Instead of a controller, the MmSID Manager is connected to the OSDP bus for the duration of the configuration process.

Purpose of the Manager

The Manager controls the readers and enables their configuration via the MmSID Config software:

• It searches for MM-R7x series readers connected to the OSDP bus.
• It sets the selected transmission speed.
• It allows for assigning the addresses necessary for the readers to operate on the OSDP bus.
• It enables the transfer of configuration settings and key certificates for card reading to the readers.

The MmSID Manager is designed as an adapter between a USB port and the RS485 (OSDP) bus. The manager does not require the installation of additional drivers. A USB-C cable is used for the connection to the computer. A red LED indicates a correct connection to the computer.
